Does CDOT require Level A certification for APM Inspectors?

Level A is an initial prerequisite.  However, the Level A certification may be current or expired.

Do I have to keep Level A current if I am an APM Inspector?

No.  CDOT does not require Inspectors to keep their Level A current.  However, if you are in the field testing Level A you need to keep your certification current.

The company I work for does not have an Asphalt Technician who is qualified to sign my Technician Prerequisite Form for lab procedures.  What should I do?

You may complete the Technician Self Verification Prerequisite Form and sign yourself.

When may I add a higher certification Level to an existing Level?

If Level A certification is current and a higher level is desired, the higher level may be added at any time during the three-year period of Level A.  Any added levels will expire on the Level A expiration date.

Is it possible to lose my LabCAT certification?

Yes, your certification can be revoked if in the opinion of the LabCAT Board of Directors, the technician is thought to have knowingly committed acts, which are detrimental to the integrity of the certification program or the construction industry in general.  Please refer to the Policy and Procedure Manual for additional details.

I’m certified in another state.  Do I still need certification in Colorado?

Yes.  The certification program is unique to Colorado Laboratory and Field Tests.  While certain tests may be similar in other states or agencies, small differences may exist.  Therefore, to insure knowledge of current CDOT laboratory and field tests, certifications from other state programs will not be honored.

Is there a policy regarding registration cancellations?

Yes.  Registration closes at 2:00 pm on the Wednesday prior to the session start date.  Cancellations or reschedules made after 2:00 pm on the Wednesday prior to the session start date will be assessed a cancellation/reschedule fee of $100.  Please refer to the Policy and Procedure Manual for additional details.

Are there certification prerequisites?

Yes.  Technicians testing for Levels A, B, C, C minus Design, or E, are required to pre-qualify for their initial certification by level.  Satisfy all Prerequisites which include:  Testing Experience, Self Verification of Proficiency in Lab Procedures as required by level, and a Liability Release.  Please reference the Technician Prerequisite Form for details.

APM Inspectors are also required to pre-qualify for their initial certification.  Required prerequisites include: Inspection / Work Experience, Understanding of Inspection Elements, and a current or expired Level A certification.
